The Undecidable Question is a one-hour performance trilogy unfolding through three interconnected chapters, each approaching a different temporal dimension of uncertainty: undecidable pasts, the making of the present, and the horizon of the future. The performance takes place in a space that is simultaneously public and intimate – a black box with shifting parameters where social proximity is practiced.
Guided by the artists Nikolina Pristaš, Goran Sergej Pristaš, and Priska Pia Pristaš, small groups of spectators enter a changing landscape of images, sounds, texts, and gestures. Each of the three parts develops through a distinct performative mode: performative lecture, choreography, and musical synthesis. Together, they create a multilayered experience in which language, movement, sound, and visual composition become ways of navigating different forms of time and attention.
The work explores unresolved questions of the past, the fragile processes through which the present is continuously produced, and the possibility of imagining futures that have not yet found their form. Animations by Marko Tadić, video by Hrvoslava Brkušić, sound by Hrvoje Nikšić, and music by Sara Glojnarić form a complex perceptual environment in which images, voices, and materials constantly transform one another.
At the center of The Undecidable Question is the idea of the composite gaze – a way of seeing that does not emerge from a fixed viewpoint, but from within the situation itself, through the encounter between bodies, space, and matter. The audience does not remain outside the image; it enters its conditions.
The performance creates a temporary community of listening and attention, where uncertainty is not a lack of answers, but a space of possibility – a place where different relations between past, present, and future can become perceptible.
