Just to move between here and there. Just to start some production or other. Brings
forth sets of completely identical, completely free, mobile entities, just to move
between here and there. Though never completely free. Always just to start the fiction
over and over. To keep a life in form. By proliferating. To keep a death formless.
Outside the fictive form. Always so spontaneously covering itself with oblivion,
always so covertly keeping itself alive between here and there. As if it were a matter
of an endless distance. It’s a matter of an overcrowded point. Always just where death
operates undercover. Though never completely covering. Never without opening the
mussel shell and letting the softness vanish. Covertly.
Inger Christensen: It
Maybe it will resemble passing through a space that keeps shifting as we discover it. Maybe it will be made of traces that linger too long and others that vanish before anyone notices them. Maybe someone will speak the same sentence many times until it becomes different. Maybe someone will forget where they are supposed to stand and, for that very reason, open a new space for others. We do not know how long individual moments will last. Some may stretch like tiredness. Some will disappear before we manage to recognize them. Maybe time here will move in circles. Maybe it will stop. We also do not know how much space bodies will need in order to be together. Sometimes they will be too close. Sometimes too far. Sometimes a wall will form between two people simply because someone set a piece of paper down on the floor. Sometimes a passage will open where there was none a moment before. Maybe we will not always see the same thing. Maybe not all voices will arrive at the same time. Maybe something will repeat not in order to be confirmed, but in order to survive. Maybe some movements will fall apart before they become clear. But maybe the performance does not arise from clarity at all. Maybe it arises precisely where things refuse to remain finished, where relationships align only momentarily, where space does not serve to place us but to keep meeting us anew.

FIFTH ENSEMBLE The Fifth Ensemble operates in Rijeka as a performance collective bringing together performers and authors, including people with disabilities, through shared work and performance practice. The Fifth Ensemble grew out of the context of the Theatre for the People programme in 2015, when we sought to answer the question “Whose people’s theatre is it and who makes up that people?”, which resulted in a shift towards understanding theatre as a common good and a space of struggle for access, presence, and visibility.
In the 2025/2026 season, the Fifth Ensemble consists of Monia Ambrić, Nataša Antulov, Nataša Bačić, Ernest Belošević, Andreja Brozić Adžić-Kapitanović, Ana Buneta, Milica Czerny Urban, Mila Čuljak, Adrijan Fumić, Matea Glavan, Vid Gržalja, Isabella Huljić, Leonardo Iličić, Leo Kovačević, Ema Krupić, Jelena Lopatić, Damir Orlić, Deni Pezelj, Lovro Pršić, Luka Rončević, Aleksandra Stojaković Olenjuk, Sretan Stošić, Jan Šokčević, and Naomi Vrban.
The Fifth Ensemble is an open field of practice where performance is continuously reinvented through encounter and shared attention, as a collective becoming built on support and movement in the ongoing expansion of possibility.
